In one of those moments that feels like the monkey’s paw curling, Nintendo has announced that it will be placing image sharing restrictions on Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. The long anticipated sequel to the 2014 3DS life simulation game, the original became a viral hit online thanks to people posting clips and memes of all the wacky situations Mii’s could get into. For Living the Dream, it’s going to be harder to quickly share funny moments.

As outlined by Nintendo of America, the company has “decided to place restrictions on certain image sharing features. These limits help to make the worlds players create in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream remain fun and safe, and that the game can be enjoyed comfortably by all players.” There is zero mention of what, exactly, those restrictions are, but Nintendo of Japan is here to clear that up for us.

If you visit the Japanese website for Living the Dream, a splash screen will appear before the main page that outlets how to use adhoc wireless to share Mii’s with friends. At the bottom of that screen is a message which reads, “The following features are unavailable: image transfer to smartphones, direct posting to social media, and automatic image uploads (Nintendo Switch 2 only). ※You can share screenshots of this game using Nintendo Switch 2’s “Game Chat.”

Now, this doesn’t mean you can’t transfer screencaps from your Switch to your PC and then upload those. Nintendo allows you to hook a USB cable up to the Switch and directly transfer photos, which is convenient. You can also remove your SD card and transfer things that way. Still, it’s a strange limitation that feels like Nintendo trying to preemptively get around questionable content, but failing to understand that that is the entire appeal of Tomodachi Life.

At any rate, sharing your bizarre situations in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will be more inconvenient than it needs to be.
