Nearly a full decade after its initial release, it seems Capcom is returning to its well of classic games for the Switch and Switch 2. According to a new listing on the ESRB website, Digital Eclipse’s 2017 compilation “The Disney Afternoon Collection” has been rated for Nintendo platforms. There’s no release date or even description present, but strangely, its rating has been downgraded. The original release received an E10 rating, while the Nintendo Switch version is simply E.

That’s probably an accidental discrepancy, but at any rate, it seems likely that this compilation of retro titles is heading to Nintendo’s consoles. I’m a little surprised the games didn’t wind up on Switch Online, but there’s probably licensing issues with the Walt Disney Corporation that prevented Nintendo from adding them. Also, this compilation is a little better than straight emulation, so it’s certainly the preferred way to play in 2026.

For those unfamiliar with The Disney Afternoon Collection, it’s a bundle of six classic Capcom NES games based on Disney Afternoon cartoons. In it, you can play the following:

  • DuckTales
  • DuckTales 2
  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers
  • Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers 2
  • Darkwing Duck
  • TaleSpin

DuckTales is one of the best licensed games on the NES, but Chip n’ Dale is an early example of an excellent co-op adventure. I also have a fondness for Darkwing Duck since it’s like a child-friendly version of Mega Man. The rest of the games range from decent to forgettable, but the bundle is still a nostalgic feast for players of a certain age (i.e. middle-aged). There’s a chance that this belated release might add more titles, but I wouldn’t really hold out hope for that. At best, the Switch 2 version will probably output in 4K.
