While the majority of Switch 1 games work perfectly fine on the Nintendo Switch 2, there are a few holdouts that either exhibit problems or simply will not boot on Nintendo’s new console. To ensure players can figure this out in the least obtuse way possible, Nintendo has launched a new website where you can check the Switch 2 compatibility of any Switch 1 game relatively simply.

What’s Nintendo’s Switch compatibility website for?

Included as part of its official website, the “Switch 2 Compatibility Information” section offers a simple search bar where you can type in any Switch 1 game and check to see if it functions properly on Switch 2. Pretty much every first-party Nintendo game functions as it should, but there are some hold-outs from third-parties that are either waiting for patches or will likely never receive an update. This is far better than the random bar graph that gave a percentage with no indication of which games were specifically incompatible.

Typing in something like Asteroids: Recharged, for instance, reveals that it is “consistent with Nintendo Switch” behavior. Searching for Kill La Kill -If highlights that it is unsupported, and that “problems with game progression have been found.” This is a much nicer and more convenient resource than what Nintendo offered before.
