Level-5 has revealed its lineup of titles for the Tokyo Game Show 2025, and there’s a big one: Professor Layton and the New World of Steam. Announced way back in 2023, the newest installment of the Layton series has been a long time coming, and there has been next to no information shared on the game in the years since. This demo will be the first bit of footage we’ve seen of the game running in action, which is now scheduled to release for both Switch 1 and 2.

In addition to Layton, Level-5 will also have demos available for Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road, and Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time (which is currently available for both Switch 1 and 2). Attendees who try out the demos for Layton and Inazuma Eleven will receive a smartphone ring holder and a rubber wristband, respectively. There will also be a giveaway for what Level-5 is calling a “Metallica Clear File” that features some key-art from Layton and Inazuma Eleven. It’s certainly fetching, and I really want that Layton piece.

Truly, though, a playable demo of Layton likely indicates that The New World of Steam is nearing completion. Although Level-5 announced the game with a nebulous 2025 release date, they have not confirmed if the game will still be released this year. I would imagine that progress has come along nicely as the game was likely in development before it was revealed.
