In celebration of Mario’s impending 40th anniversary, Nintendo have taken the time to create three Mario-focused stop motion short films. And we do mean short — Neither are longer than a minute or so. Titled “It’s Me, Mario!” — the shorts have been released under the recently established My Mario brand.

Say Hello, Mario!

In addition to the shorts, the new Hello, Mario! app is available to download internationally, depending where you are, on the eShop and smart devices. Curiously, this app has not hit the North American eShop yet and there is no confirmation that it will.

The Hello, Mario! app, geared towards children, lets families interact with an animation of Mario’s face using the touch screen, control pad, or face buttons. Mario exclaims, laughs, and even sings while interacting with a tool bar of various familiar items. Among the items are a Super mushroom, warp pipe, a Star and a music block.

The Play Nintendo YouTube channel features content that is exclusively aimed at young gamers and families. In addition to the YouTube channel, there’s also the Play Nintendo website with virtual activities and puzzles to interact with.

This seems to be the first phase of Mario’s 40th anniversary roll-out. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
