The Nintendo 64 is one of the most beloved consoles Nintendo has ever released. Ever since it made its way to the Nintendo Switch Online service, fans have been eagerly awaiting the addition of more and more iconic games to the library. Now almost four years later, the total list of games is pretty impressive, though it isn’t perfect. One particularly notable title that hasn’t made its way over is the very first Super Smash Bros. game, one of the most popular titles on the console. While there’s no official word on the matter, recent rumors suggest it could be on its way thanks to what might have been an accidental leak by Nintendo themselves.
Am I going crazy or did Nintendo just leak Donkey Kong 64 on NSO? pic.twitter.com/hTDNhjgsAW

In a brief features update video shared by Nintendo of America, an interesting background detail was noticed. At 40 seconds in, the Nintendo 64 library can be seen in the background of the settings menu, albeit very blurred. In said blur, Twitter user AS_12239 spotted what vaguely resembles the box art for Super Smash Bros. in the lower right corner. It’s hard to see at first, but when comparing the blurred colors and shapes to the original, it becomes clear. This might suggest that the game could be in the works to be added in an update sometime down the line, although that’s far from guaranteed. Twitter user @ImakuniVT took it a step further and went on the hunt for more Nintendo 64 artwork, and lo and behold, what appears to be Donkey Kong 64, Glover and Forsaken 64 hidden in the background.
I started hunting with my Discord for what games Nintendo "accidentally" spoiled with the May NSO update video and this is what we have so far. Still trying to compare box arts, but this is what we have so far!! pic.twitter.com/V5IGDsaPFI

As exciting as this news is, it’s important to take all of this with a grain of salt. It’s clear that there is a vague resemblance to the box art, but with how intense the blur is it makes it hard to be 100% certain. Hopefully Super Smash Bros. does end up being added to the service, but until we have official word it’s impossible to be sure just from this. That said, this does spark some hope that it could be on its way sometime soon, so keep an eye out for more news in the coming months!
