The nostalgia for Sonic is strong, it would seem. According to Sega, the recently released Sonic x Shadows Generations has sold one million units on launch day. While there isn’t a platform breakdown for which version did the best, the sentiment is clear: people really love the Blue Blur and his darker shadow (pun intended).

Available across all current and last-generation platforms, Sonic x Shadow Generations is an expanded remaster of the 2011 title Sonic Generations. Made as a celebration of all forms of Sonic 13 years ago, the game has endured as possibly the only good 3D Sonic game and is a solid representation of Sonic’s past and present… although now it is firmly past and more recent past. The remaster includes, if it wasn’t evident enough, Shadow the Hedgehog alongside his own campaign which is apparently quite good.

I was fond of the original Generations all those years ago, but I’ve never been a big fan of Shadow. I do think it’s great that instead of simply porting the original, Sega decided to include more content to give double-dippers a reason to replay the game. The PC version was astonishingly good, but the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions were a bit subpar. Having them run silky smooth on newer hardware is always a big bonus.
