Konami is set to re-release Rocket Knight and Felix the Cat physically and digitally

In a surprising bit of news from Konami yesterday, the House of Snake will be re-releasing a few of its oft-overlooked classics on modern platforms soon. As part of a collaborative effort with Limited Run Games, players will be able to re-experience Felix the Cat for both NES and GameBoy as well as a trio of Rocket Knight titles released across Sega Genesis and SNES.

What does Konami’s Felix the Cat Collection include?

The first of these collections is the aptly titled “Felix the Cat Collection.” It includes two games released by Hudson Soft in 1992 and 1993. These are Felix the Cat for both NES and Game Boy. While maybe not absolute masterpieces, these re-releases are notable for being an affordable way to finally play these titles. As Polygon points out, according to price-tracking websites for the Game Boy version, a complete-in-box copy will run you upwards of $300+. I suppose Felix’s bottomless bag of tricks can hold that much cash, but that’s definitely not a purchase most should make.

Rocket Knight trio bundle to release

For me, the more exciting announcement is the Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked collection. While Felix the Cat was limited to a duo of games, Rocket Knight had a trio of titles released on 16-bit platforms. The first two, Rocket Knight Adventures and Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2 were classic Genesis platformers that rivaled what Sega was doing with Sonic. The third game, Sparkster, was an interesting side-story created for the SNES after the success of the first Rocket Knight.

In a cool move, Rocket Knight’s bundle will come with a new intro animation, some rewind features, a boss rush mode, and a museum with never-before-seen content. Konami looks to be going all out with this particular package, which is very welcome. Rocket Knight is an underrated gem.

Limited Run Games will release Rocket Knight and Felix the Cat physically

As confirmed by Limited Run yesterday, Konami will be handling the digital publishing of these bundles on all platforms. Both Felix the Cat and Rocket Knight will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. If you’d let to get physical versions of these games, that’s where Limited Run Games comes in.

Pre-orders for Felix the Cat will run from February 9th to March 10th, 2024. Rocket Knight, on the other hand, is currently available for pre-order and will close all orders on March 3rd, 2024. There are a plethora of different options to choose from, though a standard edition for both packages is available. No need to splurge on steelbooks and plushes if you don’t want to.
