People are quick to call the Switch old and haggard these days. “It’s been out for over six years. Nintendo needs to upgrade. When is the Switch 2 coming,” says the strawman I made up in my head. Well, guess what? Japan’s sales of the console last month were the highest ever. How’s that for growing old?

This is reported by Nikkei (citing Famitsu) who stated that the 380,000 units sold in June were a 68% rise from the previous year. The record-breaking was likely driven by the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, though the June Direct and maybe even the lingering boost from the popularity of The Super Mario Bros. Movie helped too. The Switch has made of a habit of breaking records, and we imagine it’s got a few more left before it really goes the way of the dinosaur.
