You may be aware of DeNA, a multipurpose entertainment company and game developer who first began collaborating with Nintendo in 2015. They’ve done several things together, including developing mobile games like Fire Emblem Heroes. But their primary function has been to help Nintendo’s service infrastructure, particularly developing the central Nintendo Account system — and now, they’re taking another step forward together, as Nintendo and DeNA have announced a joint venture company titled “Nintendo Systems,” a subsidiary of Nintendo  focusing on enhancing “digitalization” and consumer relations.

Nintendo Systems will research and develop ways to improve value in Nintendo’s various digital services and the company’s relationship with users. The company isn’t expected to have any bearing on immediate financial results, but will hopefully pay dividends in the future. Given Nintendo’s long, shaky history of navigating the digital age (where it’s often accused of lagging behind its competitors), this may be the boost needed to get on track with other services and corporations.

We’ll be sure to report on any pertinent news involving Nintendo Systems going forward.
