There are many reasons why Japan may be the greatest place on the planet, one of those being the fact that the Pokémon Slowpoke is the mascot of one of its locales. Slowpoke is the “Pokémon Ambassador” for Kagawa prefecture and is often used to promote tourism in the area, and now it welcomes a new attraction based on the lazy Water-type critter.
This week, in collaboration with The Pokémon Company, Takamatsu City’s Takamatsu Chuo Post Office has installed an official Slowpoke post box. Because the Pokémon’s Japanese name, “Yadon,” sounds similar to “udon” (a dish popular in Kagawa), the post box depicts Slowpoke sitting in some udon noodles. Images shared by the Japanese Pokémon Fan Club even showed that the box has a little easter egg on the back: a Shellder can be seen eyeing a dangling pink noodle, a reference to how Shellders tend to bite Slowpoke tails that dangle in water, causing Slowpoke to evolve into Slowbro.

In addition to the post box, there is also a Slowpoke-themed postal van delivering mail across the area, and a new stamp in the post office that can be used by visitors to make a souvenir.

If you don’t live in Japan, fans of the pink Pokémon worldwide at least have Slowpoke Day to look forward to, when The Pokémon Company acknowledges the lovable dolt on August 10th.
