Overall, both Masaru Oyamada, a Mana Series producer, and Shinichi Tatsuke, a Trials of Mana producer, agree that “the Mana Series itself is a rare example of one [JRPG] with an Asian taste,” which is different than your standard western-fantasy styled Japanese RPGs.
“I think that makes it stand out among JRPGs as something really unique and appealing,” said Masaru Oyamada. He also cites music as a critical component of the Asian flair seen throughout the game.
For those unaware, Trials of Mana is the 3D-remake of the 1995 JRPG Seiken Densetsu 3. Developed by Square Enix, the game will be available worldwide for Nintendo Switch on April 24th, 2020.
