Some of the most memorable stories in video games have all been under a single name. It’s a title that’s managed to become more and more egregiously incorrect with every entry, but still manages to evoke an emotional response. Though their main entries vary in quality and mechanics, there’s no denying the legacy Square Enix pours into its marquee franchise — 32 years later to the day and the Final Fantasy series is still an RPG legend.
With much of the series available on Nintendo Switch, there’s never been an easier time to enjoy these characters, songs, settings, and creatures. Hopefully in the future we’ll see even more entries make their way to our favorite system, but for now you can celebrate Final Fantasy’s anniversary by seeing a what-if compilation we want more than any other:
