When Fire Emblem: Three Houses launches tomorrow, it reportedly won’t come with a “Lunatic” difficulty option straight out the box: Instead, it’ll be added to the game via a post-launch update.
This news comes from Nintendo Everything, which gleaned the information from a translated Famitsu interview with Fire Emblem: Three Houses’ director, Genki Yokota.
Nintendo of Europe also confirmed the news via a tweet, albeit not calling the mode “Lunatic.”

Lunatic Mode first appeared in 2010’s Japan-only Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem for the Nintendo DS.
Since its debut, it also appeared in 2013’s Fire Emblem Awakening and 2016’s Fire Emblem Fates — both for Nintendo 3DS — but skipped out on 2017’s Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.
It was also available as an unlockable difficulty option in spin-off titles Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE and Fire Emblem Warriors.
Typically, the mode adds slightly more enemies to maps, increases enemy stats, improves enemy AI, and provides more skills to opponents.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses will launch worldwide tomorrow, July 26th, 2019.
