No More Heroes creator Goichi “Suda51” Suda has said that he doesn’t know if fans will ever see series protagonist Travis Touchdown again.

The renowned game designer and Grasshopper Manufacture boss recently told Eurogamer that Travis’ fate is out of his hands, since Japanese publisher Marvelous still owns the rights to the No More Heroes franchise.

“Of course I’d love to see him again, but to be honest it’s simply not my call to make,” he says.

Travis last appeared in 2021’s No More Heroes III. Even upon its release, Suda strongly hinted at the game being the end of a Travis trilogy, bidding farewell to the character in a special message to fans.

Despite the uncertainty around Travis’ return, Suda has previously expressed strong interest in continuing the No More Heroes franchise, with or without him. He stated in 2021 that, were he to make No More Heroes 4, “it would probably be in about 10 years or so, both in real life and in the game’s time.” In another interview, Suda said that he could see the franchise continue even if he were to officially retire Travis as the main character.

Suda has also considered creating a spin-off game starring recurring No More Heroes character Shinobu Jacobs, Travis’ enemy-turned-ally. Games aside, Suda has said he hopes that a No More Heroes movie or TV show could happen one day.

We had many positive things to say in our review of No More Heroes III, so here’s hoping that rights complications won’t stop any of Suda’s many ideas coming to fruition one day. Even if another assassin must take Travis’ place, many of us long to see the series continue its twisted tales of Beam Katana-based bloodshed.
