Those looking forward to Super Nintendo World Japan’s upcoming “Donkey Kong Country” addition this Spring will need to make new plans: the park expansion has been delayed until late 2024. In a post on the official Universal Studios Japan Twitter account, the company confirmed that the opening has been pushed back, though it didn’t offer an explanation.
“You shall not pass!”
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused to those who have been waiting,” reads the post. “We will announce the opening date and other details as soon as they are decided.” Reading between the lines, there is likely just a setback with implementing the new coaster. As we reported in the past, Universal is looking at including “game accurate” jumps into the DKC ride, so there is probably some delay with getting specific parts, etc.
While it may be disappointing for fans who were looking forward to finally riding one of those minecarts, this delay will likely ensure the smooth opening of Super Nintendo World in Orlando, Florida next year. The Hollywood, California park currently only has the Mario Kart ride while the Florida park will launch with both Mario Kart and Donkey Kong Country in the summer of 2025. Working out all of the kinks now should ensure that park opens with no issues.
