As part of its latest financial results report, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa stated that the company is not considering increasing the price of the Switch 2 for a second time.
In an article from Reuters, the company confirms that operating profit for Nintendo has decreased 16% this year, but that the Switch 2 is still showing strong momentum as a platform. Despite currently slipping in sales a bit, the company has no intention of upping the price of the console as it has secured “sufficient quantities” of memory to create new units for the foreseeable future. While investors are getting antsy over the “lack of high-profile titles,” Nintendo has just released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and has big things planned for 2027.
While the Switch 2 is no longer the fastest-selling console in the US, it is still outpacing the original Switch in terms of sales during the same time frame. Nintendo has updated its sales figures to 26.35 million units and notes that in almost every quarter since release, the Switch 2 has beaten the original by at nearly one million units each time (only in its fourth quarter did it fail that, though the original Switch launched much earlier in 2017 compared to Switch 2’s mid-2025 release).
In terms of software, Mario Kart World has moved an astonishing 16.48 million units while Donkey Kong Bananza takes the number two spot with 5.05 million. Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is tied for third with Pokémon Pokopia, both having sold 4.04 million. Splatoon Raiders then takes the fifth spot with 2.42 million, which is a very solid number for a non-multiplayer focused spinoff. While most people seem to be getting a Switch 2 simply to play older Switch games, Nintendo has done well with its first-party software thus far.
