Sony Pictures has released a new featurette for its upcoming Resident Evil reboot, with new footage showing some first-person sequences.

The video includes commentary from director Zach Cregger, who says he pulled “a lot of inspiration” from the games. First-person footage of protagonist Bryan (played by Austin Abrams) aiming his guns seems to indicate that some of that inspiration may have come from newer entries, such as Resident Evil 7.

“I tried to keep the environment changing every seven or eight minutes, like the games,” Cregger said. “You’re always moving into another level, as it were.

“The games always have this progression where you start with a pistol, and then you graduate to a shotgun. And then you graduate to a machine gun. There’s a lot of items from the games, [Bryan’s] constantly coming up against these padlocks that are stopping him from progressing.

“You won’t be able to help but notice some of the healing spray cans, and some of the green herbs. You find these typewriters periodically as you’re moving through this world,” he added.

In the film, Bryan is a medical courier who is tasked with transporting an important package to Raccoon City. With this in mind, Sony Pictures also released a fictional document that serves as a behind-the-scenes detail for the movie, showing details of Bryan’s cargo.

The delivery details confirm the main character’s name is Bryan Hodukavich, that the package’s destination is Raccoon City General Hospital, and the customer is the sinister Umbrella Corporation — the company responsible for the t-Virus outbreak.

Resident Evil will be released in theaters on September 18th, 2026. It is co-written by Zach Cregger and Shay Hatten, and stars Austin Abrams, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, Paul Walter Hauser, and Jonno Wilson.
