Developer Shift Up has shared some new footage of Stellar Blade running on Nintendo Switch 2 and, honestly, it looks great. When the game released in 2024 for PlayStation 5, the image quality on base PS5 was pretty terrible. Despite boasting some complex geometry and particle effects, the lack of high-end antialiasing ruined the overall picture. PS5 Pro remedied that, but with the Switch 2 having DLSS in its pocket, Stellar Blade looks quite good overall.
Now, that doesn’t mean there aren’t compromises here. With a target framerate of 60 fps for gameplay, Shift Up has had to drop the resolution a bit. Stellar Blade is seemingly running at 1080p here with DLSS filling in the gaps, but it’s surprisingly sharp. Without YouTube’s compression wrecking things, the final game might look even better, though some of the hair effects look fizzly and textures can be a little low resolution. There’s only so much you can do with the power of a Switch 2, but Nintendo certainly packed quite a bit of power into its console.
When will Stellar Blade release on Switch 2?
Shift Up hasn’t revealed when Stellar Blade will be hitting Switch 2, but it’s on track for a late 2026 release. Dubbed “Complete Edition,” it will include both the Nier Automata and Nikke collaboration packs, which mostly add new costumes and a single boss fight. Joy-Con 2 support is said to bring an “extra layer of immersion” to the experience, though I’m not sure how that will be implemented.
