As part of its latest financial earnings report, developer Pearl Abyss has confirmed a number of new details regarding its open-world action RPG Crimson Desert. While most of the report mentions new DLC and a potential multiplayer mode, the dev claims that it has Crimson Desert running on Switch 2 in a playable state and is “working toward a release targeted for the first half of 2027.”
In a segment dedicated to potential live service expansions, Pearl Abyss brings up porting the game to new platforms and states, “In the case of Switch 2, the game has reached a playable baseline, and we are currently conducting technical reviews regarding performance optimization and quality standard compliance, targeting a release in the first half of next year.”
Originally a spinoff of Black Desert Online, Crimson Desert released earlier this year on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S to good-ish critical reviews, and solid sales numbers. Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-young stated earlier this year that he wanted to get the game on Nintendo Switch 2, though the quality and scope of the game were big hurdles in porting it over. Obviously, things have changed since then.
Crimson Desert multiplayer and DLC
Elsewhere, the report notes that Pearl Abyss is looking into integrating multiplayer for Crimson Desert, though doesn’t have any finalized plans yet. The first major DLC pack is also being developed and should be available before the end of 2026. That pack will likely launch with the Switch 2 version whenever it does get finished.
