Another financial quarter has ended, which means pretty much every major gaming publisher will be releasing its quarterly earnings reports in the coming days. One of those is Capcom, which held an investor Q&A last week after revealing some new sales numbers for its major titles in 2026. We’ve already reported on how Pragmata is likely to get a sequel, but one extra detail concerns the split between digital and physical sales. According to Capcom, “approximately 90%” of all its game sales are digital.
When asked about the impact that the shrinking physical game market will have on Capcom’s business, the company responded, “Approximately 90% of our unit sales are digital. We do not anticipate a significant impact at this time.” Earlier in the Q&A, Capcom notes that it has been seeing an uptick of younger users playing its games, notably Pragmata and Resident Evil, and claims that players in their 20s account for roughly half of the sales for both Pragmata and RE Requiem. That might explain why digital sales have become so strong for the company.

Now, this 90% figure leaves out a lot of information which could help clarify things. Does Capcom consider Nintendo Switch 2 Game-Key Cards as digital games? Which regions are spending more on digital than physical? How much do PC sales, which are digital-only, account for things? It’s unlikely any of that matters, but taking the figure at face value seems to only serve Capcom’s motives rather than tell the entire truth. Still, 90% is a substantial number and I imagine it will only grow once Sony stops producing discs for its console. It’s a sentiment that Ubisoft shares, at least.
