Nintendo has released a new overview trailer for its upcoming puzzle-platformer, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, which goes over a number of elements of the game.
As previously seen in last year’s reveal trailer, the new video opens with a group of Yoshis discovering a giant talking book called Mister Encyclopedia (Mr. E for short), who fell from the sky. The book is supposed to be about mysterious creatures, but Mr. E has lost the content of its pages.
Yoshi is tasked with filling out the empty pages by jumping into the book and exploring its worlds. His moveset is similar to his previous games, once again having the ability to swallow fruit and enemies, throw eggs, flutter jump, and ground-pound. This time, however, Yoshi can also Tail Flick creatures to put them on his back and carry them around.
The trailer also shows how players can make discoveries by interacting with enemies and the environment in unique ways, such as ground-pounding a Crayzee Dayzee to make flowers bloom.
Once a new creature has been discovered, Mr. E will suggest giving it a name. Players have the option to either let the book give a suggestion, or name it themselves. Many creatures have unique traits that Yoshi can use to progress, such as vaulting into the air or sticking to surfaces.
Collectible tokens can be used to unlock hints, which will point to new discoveries. Certain amiibo figures (pictured below) can also be tapped to gain more tokens.

The names of six worlds can be seen in the book, which give an idea of the types of locales Yoshi can explore: Wildwoods, Mountaintops, Seaside, Settled Valley, Bug Country, and Remote Isle.
Bowser Jr. makes an appearance, and gives a clue as to his potential motive when he asks Yoshi, “Hey! Are you looking for the Bewilder Bird too?”
Yesterday, IGN released a 15-minute preview of the game, which shows an extended look at many of the features from the new trailer.
