Paramount Pictures has shared the first full trailer for Street Fighter, the film reboot based on the mega popular Capcom series, and… it looks decent?! Color me surprised, but everything I’m seeing here looks like a legitimate movie. I wouldn’t say it’s exciting or even groundbreaking, but it looks as if some actual care went into recreating specific details from the various games.

For one, the trailer starts with the classic announcer voice. Two, characters are wearing variations of their costumes that make sense in real-life. Three, Callina Liang is perfect as Chun-Li. And four, the tone seems to not be overly serious. Street Fighter, as a concept, is inherently ridiculous, so it’s nice that the movie isn’t trying to turn this into a serious drama or anything.

Now, I could pick apart what we know about the plot, but I don’t think that’s truly important here. I dig the angle of Chun-Li enticing Ryu and Ken into the tournament because of their shared bromance, but we don’t really know enough about what is going on. For me, this film is going to live or die by its action choreography, and we don’t have much information there. On IMDB, Jon Valera is listed as stunt coordinator, and that’s a good sign. He previously did work on Atomic Blonde and John Wick Chapter 3. He has a history of action films under his belt, so there is a good chance this film will look solid.

We won’t know for certain until October 16th, 2026, rolls around. That’s when Street Fighter will debut worldwide in theaters. Funny how this and Mortal Kombat 2 are coming out in the same year.
