Nintendo recently uploaded an FAQ for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, the upcoming new game in the cult-classic series. Scheduled for release on April 16th, 2026, there have been some questions about what Nintendo Switch 2 users can expect in terms of upgrades when they play on Nintendo’s latest hardware. There was also a concern over the limit of Miis available on each island or how save files will work across different users. Thankfully, we now have official answers.

As the FAQ details, users on Switch 2 won’t see any changes in content when playing Living the Dream, but will experience “faster loading times,” increased resolution in handheld mode, and the ability to use GameChat while online. Because of the increase in handheld resolution, Handheld Mode Boost will not be available, though that’s not really a concern. It also means that touchscreen controls are not locked out in handheld mode, which does happen when using boost mode.

While touch controls are available, strangely mouse controls will not be included on Switch 2. That seems like a missed opportunity considering a handheld of Switch 1 games do support the mode when played on Switch 2 (including the newer Picross S games). I’m guessing it has to do with online compatibility for multiplayer, though I’m only speculating.

When it comes to save data limitations, Nintendo cleared up any confusion about different users and islands. If you’ll remember from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there was only one island per console with the game, meaning every user would be playing with the same village. For Living the Dream, each user will get access to their own islands. There will be a 70 Mii per player limit, however. Miis created in Living the Dream are also not compatible with other Mii enabled games on Switch or Switch 2, including Miitopia.

You can read the rest of the FAQ on Nintendo’s website, which mainly goes over information we learned from the previous Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream trailer.

Can’t wait until the game’s release on the 16th? The Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream demo is available to download in the Switch eShop right now!
