With all the buzz around Fox McCloud’s appearance in the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie, it seems rumors are now circulating that Star Fox is set to make its grand return to gaming soon. As part of industry pundit NatetheHate’s latest podcast, it’s claimed that the big summer game for Nintendo Switch 2 this year is not a new Mario platformer, but a Star Fox revival. Whether this will be yet another remake of Star Fox 64 or a brand-new installment is anyone’s guess, but the timing would be perfect.
If that wasn’t enough, Nate is also stating that Splatoon Raiders will be released in the summer to keep momentum strong for the system. This will be, reportedly, followed by Rhythm Heaven Groove and Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave to bring in the fall. That’s certainly a lot of heavy hitters, even if Splatoon is likely to be the game that eclipses them all.
Rounding out his rumor milling, Nate claims that a new Switch Sports will be released for the Switch 2, though he isn’t certain if it’s just an upgrade for the current game. Switch Sports released in 2022 and received a number of updates that same year which included new game modes. While a new entry is still a possibility, a “Switch 2 Edition” patch would follow in what Nintendo has done with a number of its games thus far.
I don’t hold a lot of stock in rumors, so I would take everything with a grain of salt. The Star Fox one does seem likely considering the movie, and we already know Splatoon Raiders is happening. This isn’t the most far-fetched of suggestions.
