Nintendo has just released a new trailer for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, the upcoming sequel to the 2014 3DS cult classic, that gives us quite a bit of new information on the game. While we already knew about Mii customization and island decorating, we now know that trading Miis with friends will be easier than ever. You can even draw random creatures and bring them to life as 2D cutouts. It’s quite a trip.

The Mii creator is finally back in action, and it looks remarkably similar to the old Wii menu. More importantly, though, new options are available for personalizing your Miis, including the ability to draw on their faces or create different eyes, etc. Clothing options will be like the last game in that you can buy them from stores and change clothes more frequently. You can also gift items to your Miis, which adds an extra layer of personality.

Speaking of personality, you can tweak specific parameters of your Miis to make them more like yourself. With new behavior options, your Miis can be shy, outgoing, or some mixture of the two. You can pick which foods they prefer, what hobbies they have, and even which Miis they like. It’s a big step over the previous game, which was a little more random in its approach to interactions.

That same layer of personality is also applied to the island your Miis inhabit this time. In Living the Dream, you can create custom textures for buildings and place them around your island to recreate city scapes or quaint towns. You can add fountains or topiaries, etc., to beautify each area. Not only that, but you can expand the island by adding new squares to keep welcoming Miis. It’s the perfect way to have your whole family and all of your friends living together.

After designing your Miis and creating fun spaces for them to explore, you can introduce Miis to one another by plopping them next to each other. Through this, they’ll develop friendships and maybe even more. Miis can now fall in love, get married, and even have children together in a much more organic fashion than the previous Tomodachi Life.

Lastly, Living the Dream provides an option to share Miis with your friends via local wireless. I’m not sure why this feature isn’t online supported, but you’re free to share a Mii and any items you’ve created with pals to expand their islands. Now if only the game can somehow fix the TSA problems going on at nearly every airport so that I can actually meet my friends face-to-face.

Better than just reading about these features, you can experience a taste of them with a new Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream demo. Available on the eShop today, it gives you a small sample of the expanse range of customization options available in the final game.
