We’re only a few weeks away from being able to relive the Virtual Boy from the comfort of our Switch systems. Nintendo’s biggest flop, the console launched at a time when anticipation for the N64 was reaching a fever pitch and before the technology to do proper 3D was financially feasible. We’ve all heard the stories of how bad the thing was, but that doesn’t mean its games should be forgotten. On February 16th, 2026, a decent chunk of them will be available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to play.
To build some hype for the Virtual Boy app, Nintendo has released a trailer detailing the launch lineup. It includes what most people consider the GOAT of the Virtual Boy library, Virtual Boy Wario Land. It also has a few other decent-ish games, but what’s most interesting is the promise of what’s to come. Sometime later this year, Nintendo will be including two unreleased Virtual Boy games on the service, one of which is a lost F-Zero title.
Here’s the launch lineup that will be available on February 17th:
- Virtual Boy Wario Land
- Teleroboxer
- Galactic Pinball
- Red Alarm
- Golf
- The Mansion of Innsmouth
- 3-D Tetris
Coming later in 2026 will be the following games:
- Mario Clash
- Mario’s Tennis
- Jack Bros.
- Space Invaders Virtual Collection
- Virtual Bowling
- Vertical Force
- V-Tetris
- Zero Racers (Unreleased)
- D-Hopper (Unreleased)
As with the other classic console apps on NSO, the Virtual Boy app will allow for save states and rewind features. You’ll even be able to fully customize your controller mapping, though the Virtual Boy’s six buttons and two d-pads map pretty well to modern controllers. Later down the line, Nintendo will introduce the ability to change the screen color, which is a tremendous feature that should be there day-one. Playing Virtual Boy games in red is nostalgic, I guess, but it’s also migraine inducing. For some reason, you will need to remove the lens from your Virtual Boy to accommodate that, though it’s likely because the lens are tinted red.
