In a story that is seemingly too coincidental to not be true, actress Eman Ayaz recently posted a video titled “The Most Devastating Moment of My Acting Career” just days after the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake was cancelled. As spotted by IGN, Ayaz outlined how a rather large-scale project she was involved with was cancelled without her knowledge, potentially upending her career as it would have given her not only broader chances within the industry, but the chance to apply for a US work visa had she been able to list the game on her CV. While that doesn’t specifically mean the Sands of Time remake is what she worked on, there are a few factors that make it likely.
For one, Ayaz states that her brother contacted her shortly after reading news of an untitled game’s cancellation a few days ago, which feels a bit too coincidental to not be Sands of Time. Ayaz also notes her Pakistani heritage, which likely fits in with Ubisoft wanting to cast actors of Middle Eastern descent for roles in a game taking place in the Middle East. Lastly, Ayaz mentions that she auditioned three years ago, which lines up with when the Sands of Time remake was rebooted following its initial delay.
“Just two months ago I filmed marketing for this project, everything had been running smoothly and that was the last I had heard,” Ayaz explains. “We were all looking forward to it being released this year, so it felt like an emotional whiplash to suddenly find this out in such a random way.” While Ubisoft seemingly informed its employees of the project’s cancellation, there have been reports in the past of developers learning they no longer had jobs by checking news outlets in the morning. It’s a devastating feeling to not even know if you still have a job every day.
You can watch Ayaz’s video to get the full story, which does paint a farther sad tale that is likely very common in the industry.
