This morning on social media, Nintendo revealed some brand-new Joy-Con 2 colors that will soon be available. Coinciding with the launch of Mario Tennis Fever on February 12th, 2026, players will now be able to own Light Purple and Light Green controllers to… not match their systems? Yeah, I’m not sure if I get it, especially not with the $100 price tag.
Ever since the launch of the Switch 2, fans have been wondering when Nintendo would announce some extra colors for the new Joy-Con 2 controllers. The console ships with a pair that sport a light blue and neon orange color sides to match the magnetic rails of the device. I figured new colors would change the exterior, which is a matte black, but that’s not the case. The next Joy-Con 2 colors simply swap the sides and joystick rings.

The idea is that the Nintendo Switch 2 has a uniform exterior, while the magnetic sides get a dash of personality. It would certainly make manufacturing new colors easier, but then that doesn’t explain why it has taken seven months for a new color scheme to hit the market. I do generally think the new Joy-Con are an improvement over the originals, but considering you can use those old controllers on the console, it might be better to hang on to them instead of shelling out $100 for these barely changed new ones.
