Mario Kart World has taken top of the podium at The Game Awards 2025 as Best Sports/Racing Game! The Nintendo Switch 2 launch title beat out its direct rival for the year, Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, in a photo finish.

Mario Kart needs no introduction as the most ubiquitous racing video game and a multiplayer mainstay for several decades now. Mario Kart World certainly carries on that legacy and we will definitely be running some victory laps over the holiday. In spite of a divisive retail pricing model for the standalone Switch 2 game and some questionable online updates, Mario Kart’s staying power remains undeniable. Congratulations, Mario Kart World and Nintendo!
