Fans that have rolled credits on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond already (how?!) have uncovered a pretty neat little factoid about the game: it features voice work from Jason Kelley of Doom Eternal and Doom: The Dark Ages fame. Portraying Ezra Duke, who first appears at the Flare Pool during Prime 4: Beyond’s campaign, the official description for the character practically sounds like someone rewrote the backstory to Doom. “A sergeant in the Galactic Federation and a seasoned veteran of Space Pirate engagements,” reads the game’s Japanese website. “He is loyal, compassionate, and trustworthy, albeit his stubborn personality puts him in conflict with his superiors.”
DOOMSLAYER IS IN METROID PRIME 4!
At least his voice actor @Jasonkelley_JK is as Ezra Duke.
I love both games so this makes me very happy! pic.twitter.com/xuuKFH1ULs

While you might be surprised to learn the Doom Slayer even has voice work, he does speak in both Eternal and The Dark Ages, if only for a single sentence. In Doom (the 2016 reboot, not the OG version), the Slayer only grunts when players take damage. There’s been some contention within the Doom fan base about whether the Slayer should even have a voice, but I don’t particularly mind it. I take more issue with the newer games having absolutely asinine lore.
Anyway, this is a fun bit of unintentional crossover that brings Metroid and Doom closer together. This is like when players discovered Charles Martinet voiced Paarthurnax in Skyrim, meaning Mario technically existed in a Bethesda game before Bethesda even brought Skyrim to Nintendo Switch. It’s always fun to learn about the people behind the games we love as it helps bridge the gap between seemingly disparate genres and styles.
