Despite its nature as a spinoff from the main series, Pokémon Pokopia will actually be introducing brand-new forms for Pikachu and Snorlax for the first time in the series’ history. As revealed at the end of a rather lengthy new trailer, players will be able to welcome Peakychu and Mosslax into their towns when Pokopia releases on March 5th, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2.
The focus of this trailer wasn’t just on those new forms, as exciting as they are. The trailer mostly acts as an introduction to what Pokopia is about and what players can expect when they start their towns. Players, who control a Ditto, will team up with Professor Tangrowth, a Pokémon that seemingly acquired their PhD at some point, to help restore an island that was previously populated by all kinds of Pokémon. To accomplish that, you’ll build structures, plant flowers, water grass, lay down rocks, etc. Think Animal Crossing with a Pokémon theme and you’re pretty close.

Peakychu
As Ditto, you’ll be able to transform into other Pokémon to get around your island more efficiently. We aren’t sure how many critters are in Pokopia yet, but we do know that a majority of Generation One monsters are here. Players will be able to customize their Ditto’s to their liking, including changing its color or what human form it can transform into. The game even features cooperative multiplayer with GameShare functionality, meaning Switch 1 players can jump in on the action as long as their friend owns a copy of the game.

Mosslax
Back to those new forms, Peakychu seems to be a ghost form of Pikachu while Mosslax is very clearly a leaf type for Snorlax. The other new addition is an alternate form for Smeargle called Smearguru, though it’s hard to decipher what is different about them. Maybe they’ve become a master painter? All of our questions will be answered when the game launches early next year.
