According to a preliminary report from IGN, Pokémon Legends: Z-A takes place roughly five years after the events of Pokémon X and Y. When the game was announced nearly two years ago, fans wondered if it would be a far future journey much like how Legends: Arceus took place in the distant past. While it is indeed a future-based game, it’s not the same kind of time-traveling saga that Legends: Arceus was.
Embargo restrictions have prevented IGN from revealing too much, but the outlet confirms that Hotel Z owner AZ appears in the game. Mable, a former Team Flare member, has also been promoted to the role of Pokémon Professor and tasks the player with catching different critters. Legends: Z-A is seemingly a direct sequel to X and Y, if not an unofficial third version of that generation which never happened.
That information is notable as the Pokémon series has only had a handful of direct sequels, to my knowledge. There were the aptly named Pokémon Black and White 2, then the weirdly titled Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon. Some people claim Gold and Silver takes place after the events of Red and Blue, but you happen to play as a different Trainer in each game. Now that I’m thinking about it, the timeline of this series has always been out of whack.
If anything, fans of X and Y will be happy to know that some of their favorite characters are now back and kicking.
