In today’s whirlwind Nintendo Direct, we learned that Donkey Kong Bananza will be getting DLC through DK Island — and we don’t even have to wait, as it’s available today.
You’ll be able to explore DK Island, Donkey Kong’s home, and explore to your heart’s content. What can you expect in this new area? You’ll greet familiar characters that make a reappearance, including Rambi, Cranky, Diddy, and Dixie Kong. You can even find bonus stages based on a familiar mine cart or jungle ruins as you explore the Island.
A new roguelike mode has also been added, courtesy of Void Kong. Emerald Rush will challenge you to destroy emerald ore in an effort to fill your quota in the allotted time. You’ll find new emerald fossils and emerald Banandium gems. These will unlock perks that will help you in your runs and allow you to buy new statues to decorate DK Island, but beware: like any roguelike, these perks and skills will reset once the run is over.
You won’t be limited to DK Island for Emerald Rush, as it was stated in the Direct that this mode is available in other layers. According to the eShop, you’ll get a first look at DK Island once you have reached the Racing Layer, but won’t be able to access it or Emerald Rush until you’ve completed the main game.
DK Island and Emerald Rush are available on the eShop now for $19.99.
