The first major update for Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound on Nintendo Switch has just been released, and it fixes a rather big problem the game had at launch. As noted in our review, the Switch version of the game did not include a 60 fps mode, which would have negatively affected the score. Finally, you don’t need to play a compromised version of Ragebound if you’re a Nintendo faithful as developer The Game Kitchen has tweaked the game to allow for smoother performance.
Dubbed the “D1” update, the majority of tweaks and changes to the game are in response to feedback from the launch period. One hugely appreciated addition is the ability to restart from a checkpoint rather than needing to kill yourself purposely to retry a segment or boss fight. You can also immediately unlock Hard Mode by beating Ryu Hayabusa in the training segment, which is a nice throwback to Ninja Gaiden Sigma including a similar situation. Having Hard Mode from the jump would also be great for more skilled players as Ragebound is a bit on the easy side. A CRT filter is now available as well.
Some new accessibility settings have also been introduced, including the ability to disable screen shake and hit stop if that bothers you. Additional dialogue has been added to bonus stages, and a laundry list of tweaks have been made to specific levels where certain glitches could be triggered. I never managed to make any of these issues occur, but it’s nice that The Game Kitchen has fixed them nonetheless. You can read the majority of the patch notes from this Steam Community post, which doesn’t directly mention the Switch version for obvious reasons.
