As many have speculated, Nintendo will indeed be holding a Direct presentation this month. As tweeted out by the company this morning, the next Nintendo Direct will commence on September 12th, 2025, at 6 a.m. PT | 8 a.m. CT | 9 a.m. ET. Unlike most Directs, this will be a roughly 60 minute presentation with information regarding both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 games.

Now, I wouldn’t assume Nintendo is going to be launching a brand-new franchise on Switch 1. That clarifier probably relates to both Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Both games are confirmed for Switch 1 and will even release on those snazzy Switch 2 cartridges which contain both versions. I could still see some smaller titles from Nintendo coming to the Switch 1, but don’t expect a new Mario or Zelda to ever hit the system again.

As for what else is in store, most of the internet is assuming Nintendo will address the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario brand. I’m not so certain, but there could be some kind of festivities in order. It is entirely possible that a new Switch 2 bundle with Mario-themed colors could be a thing or we might even get a compilation of classic Mario games to own. Considering that Nintendo has said nothing else up to this point, however, I remain skeptical.

In some way, I feel it’s better to go into each Direct without anticipating anything that we don’t already know. It would be ludicrous to not showcase Metroid Prime 4 or Legends: Z-A, but everything else? Fair game, I suppose.
