As sure as the sun rises and sets, Nintendo will have another Direct presentation this year. We don’t currently know when, but new rumors are suggesting that the company is planning one for mid-September 2025. Contain your shock and awe.

According to both Switch Force and VGC, The Big N will be holding its next stream on September 12th, 2025. For those keeping track, that is one day before the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. brand. The company hasn’t talked about anything Mario-related for a while (unless you count Donkey Kong Bananza), so they might reveal some compilation or remaster of older Mario games. We also have Metroid Prime 4: Beyond still in limbo, with VGC suggesting we could learn the release date during the Direct. That isn’t exactly Mario-related, but it’s still something. Rumors are also circulating that a Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Switch 2 update is coming, which is bound to be announced sooner, rather than later, if true.

Nintendo has historically held a Direct every September, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility that we’ll see one again. With the Nintendo Switch 2 being less than a year old, I would imagine the company doesn’t want to rest on its laurels just yet. It’s impossible to really know what Nintendo plans or has planned, but this rumor at least seems more plausible than others.
