Nintendo announced this morning that starting on August 3rd, 2025, prices for the original Switch hardware and “certain” Switch 2 accessories would be receiving an increase “based on market conditions.” Despite the Switch 2 not even being two months old at this point, the original Switch is actually getting more expensive over its eight-year lifespan instead of cheaper. Fantastic.

While Nintendo hasn’t announced the exact changes it will be making, Target has already implemented the increases on its website. The Switch OLED model is now $399.99, which is a $50 increase from the original $349.99 price. The regular Switch will be $339.99 and the Switch Lite will be $229.99. Joy-Con 2 controllers will now run you $100 for the pair, and Nintendo’s absolute killer app Alarmo will be increased to $110. Ridiculous.

Nintendo has stated that no price changes will be coming to the Switch 2, Switch 2 games, digital games, or NSO membership tiers for the time being. I suppose those are subject to change, however, considering “market conditions,” which is basically a thinly veiled jab at President Trump’s ongoing tariff war. If you were hoping to grab a cheaper Switch 1 console, however, you might want to do it now before every outlet ups the price.
