A brand-new game in Bandai Namco’s cult-favorite Katamari series – the first new mainline entry in 14 years – has just been announced for Nintendo Switch.
A reveal trailer for Once Upon a Katamari, featured in today’s Nintendo Partner Showcase presentation, shows the typical Katamari roll-and-gather formula across various levels based on historic eras, such as Edo Japan, the Jurassic era, and the Ice Age.
It will launch worldwide on October 24th as a Switch 1 title, so it can be played on both the original Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
Players can customize the appearance of the playable Prince, as well as 68 other Cousins. The game also features online multiplayer for up to four players, and the soundtrack will boast new and returning music artists from the series’ history.
The game’s listing on the Nintendo Store reveals that The King of All Cosmos “accidentally crushed the Earth, the Moon, and numerous planets while fiddling with a peculiar scroll.” It’s up to players to roll their Katamari across time to rebuild the galaxy.
Owners of either Katamari Damacy Reroll or We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie on Nintendo Switch can receive a Young King costume for your character.
Pre-orders begin today on the Nintendo eShop and Steam, and on August 5th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/
