It’s been 1,000 years since Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced by developer Team Cherry, but the wait is seemingly approaching its end. As part of its media blast for featured titles today, Microsoft confirmed that among first-party titles and partner published ones, Silksong will be playable at its booth during Gamescom this year. This is the first publicly playable version of the game, and it means one thing: the development cycle is nearing its conclusion.
I wouldn’t get your hopes up for a release date announcement or anything, but we knew from Microsoft’s reveal of the Xbox ROG Ally a few months back that Silksong would be playable on the device. Microsoft went out of its way to feature the game, and after some initial confusion regarding the release date (people assumed Silksong would release with the handheld), Team Cherry stated that Silksong will be finished sometime this year. That could be on December 31st, 2025, but that would still make Silksong a 2025 title!
Other notable third-party games playable at the Xbox booth this year are the following:
- Borderlands 4
- Onimusha: Way of the Sword
- Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
- EA Sports FC 26
- Aniimo
- There Are No Ghosts at the Grand
- Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
- Final Fantasy XVI
- Invincible VS
- Super Meat Boy 3D
- Cronos: The New Dawn
- Mistfall Hunter
Gamescom will be running this year from August 20th-24th, 2025. As always, the conference is situated in Cologne, Germany, at the Koelnmesse (aka Cologne Fair).
