When looking at big names in the film industry, the titan that is the Star Wars franchise stands out among the rest. For almost 50 years the series has been capturing the imagination of people all across the world, expanding beyond movies and into all sorts of media, video games included. The most recent game from the series was Star Wars Outlaws, an open-world title that was released just last year. While the game is still relatively new, it turns out that a sequel was already in the works, at least up until recently.

News of this cancellation first came via the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast. According to Tom Henderson, co-founder of Insider Games, a sequel to Star Wars Outlaws was in the works up until a recent cancellation. He stated that the game was still very early in development, implying that it was likely several years out from release had work on it continued. When it comes to why it was cancelled, he didn’t share anything in that regard.

“They also recently cancelled Star Wars Outlaws 2, because that was planned and in the works. It didn’t enter production; as much as I know it wasn’t really set in stone. It was very very early but they looked at Outlaws 2 and thought ‘Yeah, let’s not do that.’”

Why exactly the sequel to Star Wars Outlaws was cancelled remains up to speculation. That being said, given that the original is not even a year old yet, any possible sequel wouldn’t be coming out anytime soon. In fact, while the DLC for Star Wars Outlaws has finished, the game isn’t quite done yet, as it is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.
