Hot on the heels of the recent release of Magic The Gathering’s massive Final Fantasy crossover set, featuring cards representing characters, events, and places from each mainline Final Fantasy game, Wizards of the Coast has announced today that their video game crossover shenanigans are far from over with the reveal of a special Sonic the Hedgehog Secret Lair release, dubbed the Sonic Superdrop, coming this July.

Magic the Gathering’s Secret Lair series is very different from a full set release like Final Fantasy, instead featuring small batches of themed cards that are often reskins of existing Magic cards, though some Secret Lair releases have featured new-to-Magic cards. Sonic the Hedgehog is just the latest in a long line of Secret Lair crossovers the includes properties like Street Fighter, Ghostbusters, The Walking Dead, and even SpongeBob Squarepants.

Secret Lair’s Sonic Superdrop will include three separate releases featuring Sonic and his pals: Friends and Foes, Turbo Gear, and Chasing Adventure.

Secret Lair x Sonic: Friends and Foes is the main event featuring seven cards of characters we know and love: Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, Dr. Eggman, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Super State. Each card in Friends and Foes is new-to-Magic, featuring mechanics that fit each of our furry friends well, with special attention paid to making sure Sonic’s abilities work well together with Tails, Knuckles, Amy should you choose to use Sonic as your Commander.

Secret Lair x Sonic: Turbo Gear features seven reskins of existing artifact, vehicle, and token cards as equipment from Sonic’s universe, like Shadow’s Air Shoes or Amy’s Piko Piko Hammer. The full list of Sonic cards from the Turbo Gear collection and the Magic cards they’re reskins of is below:

  • The Reaver Cleaver as “Knuckles’s Gloves”
  • Swiftfoot Boots as “Air Shoes”
  • Myr Battlesphere as “Egg Hammer”
  • Hammer of Nazahan as “Piko Piko Hammer”
  • Lightning Greaves as “Power Sneakers”
  • Weatherlight as “Tornado, Sonic’s Biplane”
  • Myr token as “Egg Pawn”

Finally, Secret Lair x Sonic: Chasing Adventure features seven classic Magic spells, many that are staples to countless decks, each with brand-new Sonic the Hedgehog-themed artwork. Chasing adventure features the following cards:

  • Generous Gift
  • Open the Armory
  • Fabricate
  • Deadly Dispute
  • Unexpected Windfall
  • Sol Ring
  • Treasure token

Fans itching to get their hands on each of these sets featuring the Blue Blur won’t have to wait too long, as the Secret Lair Sonic Superdrop is happening on July 14th, 2025 at 9 a.m. PT over at magicsecretlair.com. Friends and Foes will be available for $39.99 for a non-foil set, while a rainbow foil version will be available for $49.99.
