With the summer season in full swing, it’s high time we all took a vacation. While that isn’t really feasible for most people due to the truly abysmal economy right now, at least we have Splatoon to occupy our time. On the official Splatoon Twitter account, Nintendo announced the next Splatfest theme for “Summer Nights” will focus on travel. Specifically, it will be about which method of travel you’d rather take.

Starting on July 11th, 2025, at 6 p.m. PT, Splatoon 3’s Summer Nights Splatfest will pose the question: “Which would you rather travel by? Land, Sea, or Air?” Personally speaking, I’d go with air since it typically gets you there much faster. I’m not one for road trips or wasting time just driving in a straight line for hours on end. I know there is some wisdom in how life is about the journey rather than the destination, but just get me to the destination. I’ll take my journey there.

Summer Nights bonus gear

As a bonus for this year’s Summer Nights Splatfest, Nintendo will be distributing some throwback Splatoon 2 gear through the Switch’s “News” channel. The News channel, available on both the Switch 1 and 2, is accessible via the home menu; after players read the Splatoon 3 news, they can access these four items:

  • Hivemind Antenna
  • Eye of Justice
  • Jetflame Crest
  • Fierce Fishskull

I assume this Splatfest will be a threeway battle much like past Summer Nights events, so make sure to lock in your teams early. With a few weeks until the festivities kick off, you’ll have lots of time to deliberate on which method of travel suits you best.
