As many players will have likely figured out by now, Mario Kart World does not feature a 200cc mode for its races. Although Mario Kart 8 added 200cc,  not even at launch but through an update to the Wii U version, its absence in a new Mario Kart is peculiar. Just before the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch last week, Rolling Stone sat down with producer Kosuke Yabuki to ask about the possibility of adding the mode back into the game via an update. Yabuki stated:

“Some players are really happy with the addition of high difficulty modes likes this. However, does that mean we’re going to consider adding engine sizes that are larger than 150cc to Mario Kart World? I’m afraid I can’t say just yet.”

That ambiguous wording doesn’t rule out the mode happening, but it doesn’t seem to be in active consideration at the moment. 200cc was really only available for diehard fans that were looking for an even more challenging option, so I can see why Nintendo didn’t prioritize it here. Mario Kart World’s tracks also weren’t created with faster speeds in mind, so bumping up the difficulty could result in unwieldy or otherwise unplayable situations. Still, it would have been a fun addition if even just for posterity’s sake.
