On Twitter this morning, Nintendo announced that a brand-new tournament for Mario Kart World will take place in Tokyo, Japan, this October. Dubbed the “Mario Kart World Invitational,” the only guess we have for what this tournament will be is in the name. There will likely be various qualifying rounds to determine who gets invited to the main event later this year, which is set for October 4th and 5th, 2025.

As the tweet ends, “More details will be revealed in the future.” I find it hard to believe that Nintendo would be hastily throwing a tournament together, so I can only imagine the lack of information is to build up hype for the event. Let speculation run rampant for the next few months as players dig through Mario Kart World and try to perfect strategies on each course. Nintendo has done this in the past with Splatoon 2 and 3, so we can probably expect something similar to that.
