We wrote a fun piece a few weeks ago about how the famed Parisian art museum, The Lourve, has been utilizing the New Nintendo 3DS as an audio guide since 2012. Whether this was just a case of serendipitous timing or someone in Paris really follows Nintendo news, The Lourve has now announced that the 3DS audio guides currently being utilized in the museum will be discontinued this September 2025.

This news does, of course, come roughly a month after Nintendo officially dropped the curtain on the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2, so it’s interesting that the museum’s official statement mentions a “new system” will take the 3DS’ place:

“The New Nintendo 3DS console audio guides will go out of operation in September 2025, to be replaced by a new system.”

Intriguing, right? The lucrative partnership between Nintendo and The Lourve has been an item since 2011 and the fact this announcement doesn’t mention that ending could be an indicator of what’s to come. Maybe The Lourve will get an arsenal of Nintendo Switch 2s before the YouTuber currently waiting outside of Nintendo’s New York flagship store gets one (He’s currently on day 39).

Whatever is to come, this has been one of the most random but fascinating pieces of Nintendo’s influence during the Iwata years and it’ll be a little sad to see it go. I’d tell you to go download the official Lourve Audio Guide application from the 3DS’ eShop, but can’t for obvious reasons.
