Mario Kart World, the brand-new entry in the Mario Kart series and the first new console title in a decade, is racing its way onto Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5th, 2025 as one of the console’s launch titles. We’ve learned a lot about the new game ever since it was first teased earlier this year.

During the Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo revealed that certain titles would be playable in 120 fps and it seems like Mario Kart World could be one of those games. According to Engadget, one of their writers was able to play the game in-person and had seen the 120 fps mode. They noted how smooth the game was compared to earlier entries.

As of now, this is not officially confirmed by Nintendo, however, it makes the most sense to have World in 120 fps, as it’s a fastpaced racing game and would gain the most by having the higher frame rate. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has a confirmed 120 fps mode with a lower resolution, so we could expect the same for World. However, take all of this with a grain of salt as it’s not officially confirmed.

We should learn more next Thursday, April 17th, during the Mario Kart World Direct. We’ll be covering it live and will post any new updates here!
