Last week’s Nintendo Switch 2 presentation naturally brought with it many exciting reveals for the upcoming system. From new games entirely, third party ports, and system info in general, there’s a lot to be excited about. Among that repertoire of exciting reveals was the confirmation that the GameCube is getting its own Nintendo Switch Online library on the console, with The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker being a part of its starting library. This left many wondering whether that meant that the HD edition released on the Wii U wouldn’t be coming to the system, but according to a Nintendo representative, that isn’t the case.

In a recent episode of Kinda Funny Games Daily, Tim Gettys spoke on his experience at a Nintendo Switch 2 press event. He mentioned asking a Nintendo representative on whether or not Wind Waker being a part of Nintendo Switch Online meant it wouldn’t see an HD port in the future, and the representative was very quick to reply with “No, all options are on the table.” Of course, this doesn’t confirm that Wind Waker HD will be coming to Switch 2, but it very well still could. After all, as was pointed out by the representative in the same conversation, there are many examples of games which are on Nintendo Switch Online and on the Switch itself in a different way.

As excitement continues to build for the Nintendo Switch 2 and all it has to offer, it comes as a collective sigh of relief to know that nothing is off the table merely by being on Nintendo Switch Online. During the Switch’s lifespan, many fans have been hopeful that the Wii U ports of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess could make their way to the system, and while the Switch’s time in the spotlight is coming to a close, with the Switch 2 on the way there’s still a chance. In the meantime, at least the original will be able to be enjoyed once the system releases this June!
