In a move that has shocked nobody, Nintendo Switch 2 will not have a console-wide achievements system like the PlayStation or Xbox. Polygon was able to speak to VP of Player/Product Experience Bill Trinen and he confirmed that achievements would not be included on the upcoming console.

Switch 2 will continue the cycle of requiring developers to include achievements on each game, if that’s something they want. We’ve seen this in the past with a few games but nothing full scale that is saved on the console itself. Kirby and the Forgotten Land has a mission system that’s similar to achievements, but we have confirmation of some upcoming games with the feature!

Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will both allow you to track specific achievements in the upcoming Zelda Notes app which will share your progress with players worldwide. There’s also a system in the upcoming Mario Kart World! During the Treehouse stream last Thursday, gamers spotted a pop-up during the World segment. It’s currently unknown how extensive this system is but we should find out more information at the game’s designated Direct on April 17th.

Are achievements something you enjoy, or are they just another feature that’s not really needed? Let us know on Twitter!
