As the countdown for the Nintendo Switch 2 presentation marches on, few were expecting an announcement of a separate Nintendo Direct just a week prior. However, that’s exactly what happened; a new Direct was announced out of nowhere yesterday, and brought heaps of brand-new information for the original Nintendo Switch. Among the many announcements came a new look at Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, with more gameplay footage, teasers, and even the reveal of a new ability!
The trailer opens with a scenic view of the planet Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is set upon, Planet Viewros. The classic Metroid Prime gameplay elements are returning in all their glory, with the ability to scan the environment, break through barriers, and fight plenty of enemies. Integral to all of this are Samus’ newly revealed psychic abilities, which seem to take a variety of forms. From interacting with mechanisms, opening doors, solving puzzles, and even directly controlling the trajectory of beams, it looks as if Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s gameplay will be centered around this new power. How and why Samus got this ability remains a mystery, but it certainly looks very fun and engaging!
To the surprise of many, there was no release date to be seen quite yet. The most that was mentioned was that it is still set for 2025, which was also the case in last year’s first look at the game. That wasn’t quite everything though, right as the trailer was set to come to a close, we got a glimpse of a brand-new suit Samus will acquire. With an intense red and silver color scheme accented by the signature purple glow the entire game seems centered around, it’s the perfect teaser to keep us all hooked for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s inevitable release sometime this year!
